In far-off lands stand the great stones

on which my thoughts rest.

It was a foreigner who wrote the strange words

on the hard board that is called my soul.

Days and nights I lie and think

about things that never happened:

my thirsty soul was once given a drink.

– Edith Södergran –

i am a neuter

a net for all voracious fish

a step toward chance and disaster

a leap in freedom and the self

the blood’s whisper …

the soul’s shiver

the flesh’s longing and denial

an entry sign to new paradises

a flame, seeking

water, deep, daring …

i am fire and water …

– Edith Södergran –

I am a drifter, and as lonely as that can be, it is also remarkably freeing. I will never define myself in terms of anyone else …

I can view everyone as pieces of a whole, and focus on the whole, not the pieces. I have learned to observe, far better than most people observe. I am not blinded by the past or motivated by the future. I focus on the present because that is where I am destined to live.

– David Levithan – Every Day

And a beautiful world we live in, when it is possible, and when many other such things are possible, and not only possible, but done– done, see you ! under that sky there, every day.

– Charles Dickens – A Tale of Two Cities
